What is Ziyarat in Madinah? – Meaning and Purpose
Ziyarat in Madinah refers to visiting the sacred sites connected to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his family, his Companions, and the pivotal events of early Islamic history. Unlike the Umrah or Hajj rituals which are obligatory, Madinah Ziyarat is a strongly recommended act of remembrance, reflection, and spiritual connection.
Visiting Madinah is not obligatory for Umrah pilgrims but the vast majority of pilgrims travel to Madinah before or after Makkah specifically to pray at Al-Masjid an-Nabawi and visit these sacred sites. The spiritual significance of standing at these locations, understanding their history, and making sincere duʿa is immeasurable.
Madina Sharif ki Ziyarat Pakistan ke liye ek khaas roohani tajruba hai. Madina Pak ki Ziyarat mein woh muqaddas maqamaat shamil hain jo Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ ki zindagi, unke Sahaba, aur Islam ki ibtidayi tarikh se munsalik hain.
Our private Ziyarat taxi tours allow you to visit these sites without any group schedule pressure, spending as much time as you wish at each location for duʿa, reflection, and personal worship.
Madinah Ziyarat Places – All Major Sites Covered in Our Tours
Below are the main Ziyarat sites covered in our tours. For full historical and spiritual descriptions of every site, visit our Madinah Ziyarat places guide. Here we provide the essential context a pilgrim needs to understand what they will visit.

Al-Masjid an-Nabawi:
The Prophet’s Mosque is the starting point and spiritual center of every Madinah visit. It is the second holiest mosque in Islam and the resting place of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Rawdah al-Muttaharah, the blessed garden between the Prophet’s pulpit and his grave, is one of the most sacred spots on earth.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of paradise.” Most pilgrims visit Al-Masjid an-Nabawi multiple times during their stay. Our Ziyarat tours begin and end at your hotel near Nabawi.
Jannat al-Baqi:
The historic cemetery of Madinah, located adjacent to Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Jannat al-Baqi contains the graves of some of the most beloved people in Islamic history including Sayyidah Fatimah al-Zahra RA (the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ), several of the Prophet’s wives, his son Ibrahim, his grandson Hasan ibn Ali RA, and hundreds of Companions. Visiting Jannat al-Baqi and offering Salaam to its inhabitants is one of the most emotionally moving experiences of any Madinah visit.
The cemetery has specific visiting hours and is typically open after Fajr prayer in the morning and for a period after Asr. Visiting hours may be restricted at certain times. Our drivers know the current access schedule and plan the tour accordingly. Included in both short and full tours.
Masjid Quba:
The first mosque in Islam. Masjid Quba was built by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself upon his arrival in Madinah during the Hijrah. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever performs ablution at home and then goes to Masjid Quba and prays two rakaat therein will have a reward like that of Umrah.”
For this reason, Masjid Quba is visited by pilgrims who wish to earn the reward equivalent to Umrah through prayer at this blessed mosque. Located approximately 3 km south of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Included in both short and full tours.
Masjid al-Qiblatain:
The Mosque of the Two Qiblas. This historically unique mosque is where the direction of prayer was changed from Jerusalem to Makkah during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ, mid-prayer, in response to a divine revelation.
It is the only mosque in history to have had two Qiblas simultaneously. The original mihrab facing Jerusalem has been removed, but the mosque remains a profound reminder of divine guidance and the completion of the Islamic direction of worship. Located approximately 4 km northwest of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Included in both short and full tours.
Masajid Sab’a – The Seven Mosques:
A group of small mosques located on and around the Mount Sela area in Madinah, associated with the Battle of the Trench (Al-Khandaq, 627 CE). During this battle, the Muslims dug a trench to defend Madinah from a large coalition army.
The mosques mark locations where the Prophet ﷺ and the Companions prayed and planned during the battle. The main mosques include Masjid al-Fatah (where the Prophet ﷺ made duʿa for three days until victory was granted), Masjid Salman al-Farisi, Masjid Abu Bakr, Masjid Umar, and Masjid Ali. Included in the full tour.
Ghars Well (Bir Ghars):
A historic well near Masjid Quba that holds a special place in the Seerah. The Prophet ﷺ drank from this well and performed ablution with its water. He instructed that after his death, his body should be washed with water from Bir Ghars.
Ali ibn Abi Talib RA narrated this instruction directly. Visiting this well connects pilgrims with a deeply personal and intimate aspect of the Prophet’s life in Madinah. Included in the full tour.
Masjid al-Jummah:
The Mosque of Friday Prayer, marking the location where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ offered the first Friday Jummah prayer after arriving in Madinah during the Hijrah. Located in the Wadi al-Rauna area approximately 1.5 km from Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Also known as Masjid Bani Salim. Included in both short and full tours.
Masjid al-Ijabah:
The Mosque of Response, so named because a specific duʿa of the Prophet ﷺ was answered at this location. The Prophet ﷺ made three supplications here, two of which were granted and one was withheld out of divine wisdom. Located approximately 2 km from Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Included in the full tour.
Dhul Hulayfah – Miqat (Masjid Ash-Shajarah):
The Miqat point for pilgrims departing from Madinah to Makkah for Umrah. Located approximately 9 km southwest of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Pilgrims who have been staying in Madinah and wish to perform Umrah must stop here to enter the state of Ihram before continuing to Makkah.
Masjid Ash-Shajarah (also called Masjid al-Miqat) is a large modern mosque with facilities for ghusl and changing into Ihram garments. This stop can be added to any Ziyarat tour or booked as a standalone Miqat transfer for pilgrims departing to Makkah.
Jabal Uhud and Shuhada Uhud Cemetery:
The site of the Battle of Uhud (625 CE), the second major battle between the Muslims of Madinah and the Quraysh. Jabal Uhud is a large mountain approximately 5 km north of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. At its foot lies the cemetery of the martyrs of Uhud, where 70 Companions of the Prophet ﷺ are buried, including Sayyidna Hamza ibn Abd al-Muttalib RA, the uncle of the Prophet and one of the greatest heroes of early Islam.
The Prophet ﷺ used to visit this cemetery regularly and the visit to Uhud is considered among the most spiritually significant stops in Madinah. Standing at the graves of the Shuhada and offering Salaam while reflecting on their sacrifice is deeply moving. Included in the full tour.
Extended Madinah Ziyarat Options – Wadi-e-Jinn and Badr
Wadi-e-Jinn (Al-Baida Valley):
Wadi-e-Jinn, also known as Al-Baida Valley or the Magnetic Valley, is one of the most unusual and talked-about sites near Madinah. Located approximately 30 km north of Madinah, this valley is famous for the phenomenon where vehicles appear to roll uphill on their own when the engine is turned off. The scientific explanation involves a slight optical illusion created by the surrounding terrain, but for many visitors the experience is memorable and a popular topic in pilgrim communities.
The valley is also historically significant as an area associated with early Islamic history. Our Wadi-e-Jinn extended tour covers all major Madinah Ziyarat sites plus travel to the valley and return. Total duration is approximately 5 to 6 hours. The extended tour fare starts from SAR 350 for a sedan.
Badr Ziyarat:
For pilgrims who wish to visit the historic Badr site, located approximately 150 km southwest of Madinah, we offer a Badr Ziyarat extension. The Battle of Badr (624 CE) was the first major military victory of the early Muslim community and is considered one of the most significant events in Islamic history. The Badr sites include the Maqbara Shuhada Badr (graves of the 14 martyred Companions), Masjid al-Arish (where the Prophet ﷺ prayed before the battle), Bir-e-Shifa (the blessed well), and Jabal-e-Malaika (where angels descended to aid the Muslims).
Other Notable Sites in Madinah – Beyond the Standard Tour
Al-Nakheel Bird Sanctuary:
Al-Nakheel Park and Bird Sanctuary is a protected natural reserve near Madinah that many pilgrim families visit, particularly those with children. The sanctuary contains hundreds of species of migratory and resident birds and provides a peaceful natural setting. For families who want to include a moment of natural beauty and calm alongside their spiritual Ziyarat, the sanctuary is a short drive from the city center.
Ajwa Date Markets:
Madinah is the home of the famous Ajwa date, one of the most prized varieties of dates in the world and specifically mentioned in hadith. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever starts his day with seven Ajwa dates will not be harmed by poison or magic that day.” Purchasing Ajwa dates directly from Madinah markets is considered a spiritual act and a cherished gift for family and friends back home. Our drivers can take you to the main date markets near Al-Masjid an-Nabawi as part of or after your Ziyarat tour.

Practical Tips for Madinah Ziyarat Tours
- Book early morning tours. The period from Fajr until approximately 9am is the best time for most Madinah Ziyarat sites. Jannat al-Baqi is open after Fajr prayer and the morning atmosphere is particularly peaceful. Jabal Uhud is best visited before the midday heat.
- Plan around prayer times. The roads around Al-Masjid an-Nabawi become congested in the 30 to 45 minutes before and after each prayer. Our drivers know the best approach routes and timing to minimize delays while accommodating prayer stops.
- Allow time at Uhud. Of all the Madinah Ziyarat sites, Jabal Uhud tends to generate the most emotional response. Many pilgrims find they want more time there than expected. Our tours do not rush you away from any site.
- Jannat al-Baqi access. The cemetery has restricted visiting hours that change seasonally. It is sometimes closed to women during certain hours. Our drivers know the current schedule and will plan accordingly.
- Ramadan considerations. During Ramadan, certain sites including Jannat al-Baqi may have modified visiting hours. Post-Iftar traffic around Al-Masjid an-Nabawi and the cemetery area is very heavy. Early morning post-Suhoor tours are recommended during Ramadan for the smoothest experience.
